“We Will Recover Empowerment Funds From Artists,” Kangwa Chileshe
Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe says all the artists who got Empowerment Fund money under arts from the Patriotic Front regime will pay back.
Mr. Chileshe says artists got Empowerment fund money to create opportunities for others adding that if nothing has been done, the money will have to be returned.
He says if it means legal actions to be taken against the artists who will fail to pay back, the law will be used to catch them.
In November 2020, 152 artists in various categories benefited from the revolving fund. The list which include popular artists such Macky II, Slap Dee, Kayombo and several others got Empowerment Fund money to create opportunities for others.
However Mr. Kangwa says a Due Diligence will be conducted to ascertain a number of jobs each artists has created.
Mr. Kangwa says his Ministry is also looking at the Proposals artists put up for empowerment Fund money to ensure that they meet their targets.
He pledged of the UPND Zero tolerance to corruption adding that, any artist who will be found wanting will be brought to book henceforth.
